A set of 10 samples developed from the Core Unit in
Design. Students will develop a theme for the samples and use these
techniques:

fabric treatments)
- Sampling and experimenting with free machine embroidery
stitches using a straight and zigzag stitch
- Appliqué techniques using straight forward
onlay, cut back appliqué of two to ten layers of fabrics -
using automatic stitching and free machining
- Texturing surfaces of fabrics and paper by manipulation,
burning, layering, curling, fringing, adding tassels, rolling, etc.
- Creating transparent effects by layering, fusing,
appliqué (bonding)
- Quilting techniques, stitching with the presser
foot on (automatic stitches), and using free machine embroidery
- A variety of finished edges to include machine
made cords, tassels, fringe, burning, traditional edges, fraying,
soluble fabrics, and braids
- Machine Lace
- Combining techniques and furthering past
knowledge
The two machine embroidered items will be inspired
