THE MACHINE EMBROIDERY SAMPLES PROJECT WILL INCLUDE:

A set of 10 samples developed from the Core Unit in Design. Students will develop a theme for the samples and use these techniques:

  • Dyeing, painting, papers and fabrics (and other fabric treatments)
  • Sampling and experimenting with free machine embroidery stitches using a straight and zigzag stitch
  • Appliqué techniques using straight forward onlay, cut back appliqué of two to ten layers of fabrics - using automatic stitching and free machining
  • Texturing surfaces of fabrics and paper by manipulation, burning, layering, curling, fringing, adding tassels, rolling, etc.
  • Creating transparent effects by layering, fusing, appliqué (bonding)
  • Quilting techniques, stitching with the presser foot on (automatic stitches), and using free machine embroidery
  • A variety of finished edges to include machine made cords, tassels, fringe, burning, traditional edges, fraying, soluble fabrics, and braids
  • Machine Lace
  • Combining techniques and furthering past knowledge

THE TWO MACHINE EMBROIDERED ITEMS

The two machine embroidered items will be inspired from the Core Unit in Design and the Samples. The items will use innovative and traditional techniques.
