About: The Gail Harker Creative Studies Center
Internationally known textile and fiber artist, author and educator Gail Harker has the equivalent of a Masters in textile and fiber art as well as contemporary embroidery, also known as stitch. More than 1,500 artists have studied at the Creative Studies Center, which offers professional certificate and diploma programs in design and stitch. Several students have gone on to win national and international recognition.
About Gail Harker, LCGI
Gail Harker’s knowledge of color, with the ability to communicate and guide, has made her one of the leading teachers in her field. Gail is a Canadian who resided for nearly 20 years in Britain, until returning to the US in 1995. She moved to Britain in 1976 with her American husband and family.
Since moving to the United States she has taught over 60 Certificate and Diploma Classes in Design and Embroidery to students from all parts of North America.
City & Guilds Institute
Gail studied art in Canada, England and Scotland. She completed both Parts 1 and 2 (Diploma) of the City & Guilds Design and Embroidery course with Distinction in both parts. She was awarded the Senior Award of Licentiateship (LCGI) by the City & Guilds Institute.
Gail previously taught several City & Guilds Embroidery courses, and was, for many years, a City & Guilds External Verifier for various colleges in Great Britain.
Author
Gail has written five books and co-authored two others:
- Embroidery Skills: Machine Embroidery (published internationally in five languages)
- Fairy Tale Quilts and Embroidery
- Christmas Stitches
- Creative Machine Embroidery
- Tassel Making
- She authored the section on Materials for Starting to Stitch Creatively (Batsford - London)
- She contributed the Machine Embroidery chapters for the Merehurst Book of Needlework.
