Valerie Stein earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at Oregon State University, with an emphasis in Fiber design, studying complex pattern weaves, traditional weave structures and specialized weaving techniques. She taught in the Continuing Education Departments of Oregon State University and North Seattle Community College. Membership in weaving guilds of Oregon and Washington has led to a longtime involvement in fiber craft demonstrations as part of community and school events. Valerie studied at the Gail Harker Creative Studies Center in Oak Harbor, Washington to gain the internationally recognized City and Guilds Certificate in Design and Embroidery Level Three. She continues to study feltmaking techniques and also teaches and demonstrates feltmaking. She has taught a number of feltmaking courses at our center. Her felted wool pincushions are distributed throughout the U.S. at specialty quilt shops. She currently participates in select art festivals during the summer months.
