City & Guilds
Embroidery Courses are well known for their creative, contemporary
approach to embroidery through basic design and color. This course
serves as a basic introduction to the vast world of embroidery.
Techniques and stitches will be worked in imaginative methods using
color, line, shape, and balance. The inspirational starting point
and color theme for this class will be from nature (leaves, trees,
rocks). Using your own hand-painted fabric, you will create a variety
of small, embroidered samples to include line, detached, textured,
and composite stitches. You will create a sample using a counted
thread technique, as well as one planned sample based on a simple
design. Following are some of the skills you will learn:
- Dyeing and printing fabric
- A variety of stitches
- Color study and transferring designs
- About needles and threads, hoops and frames
- Effective Presentation
You will learn about and see a variety of
other techniques from our other Embroidery students. These techniques
will include Appliqué, Couched Threads, Laid Work, Cut Work,
Broderie Anglaise, Darning, Tassel Making, Quilting, Black Work,
and Canvas Work. You will not be making samples of these techniques.
Notes will be provided to all students by the Gail
Harker Creative Studies Center.
You
will create a binder of work showing a variety of inspirational
stitch samples and classroom notes which will provide a source
for years of inspiration from which to work.
This is a City & Guilds of London Course. Time will be allowed for each
student to complete a binder of samples and notes that will be used to assess
your work for the award of the City & Guilds Certificate. Binders are due at the Gail Harker Creative Studies Center no later than 15 August 2005 (for
those applying for the Certificate).
All postage costs will be the responsibility of
the student.
